Carpet Stains

Stain Resistant Carpets
Can Be Damaged!

If your carpeting is 8 or fewer years old, chances are that it is a 6th generation, nylon (stain resistant) carpeting. Dupont, Monsanto, BASF and Allied Signal, (makers of the fiber not the carpet) heavily advertise their carpet fibers under such names as Stainmaster, Wear-Dated and Anso Nylon.

Essentially, a stain resistant coating is an acid dye blocker applied to the fibers. Acid dye blockers are colorless dye molecules designed to block the dye receptor sites on a carpet, preventing staining from acid based dyes, such as Kool-Aid, fruit juice and the like.

This stain resistant process works wonderfully, except for one problem: Cleaning the carpet with a high pH cleaner will strip the carpet of its stain resistance. (pH refers to the acidity or alkalinity of a water based liquid). Many carpet cleaning companies use pre-sprays that have a high pH to speed up the cleaning process cutting down on the need for mechanical agitation to loosen the soils from the fibers before extraction. The results can be disastrous and could possibly void your manufacturer's warranty.

Most household cleaners that are formulated for hard surfaces will remove the stain resistance also. they are too harsh for use on carpeting.

The solution? Mott's Carpet Cleaning, of course! The cleaning process uses only approved pH cleaning solutions therefore your carpet gets clean without removal of the stain resistant treatment. The hallmark of the Mott's Carpet Cleaning process has always been safe, gentle, effective cleaning. Why risk using any other cleaning system?
