How to Spot Clean Using Water-Based Spotting Solutions |
If liquid, blot up as much as possible with a lean folded cloth. Press firmly with the cloth and change cloths one it has become soiled. You can also extract with a shop/we vac. If solid, scrape up with a spoon or spatula, then proceed with spotting procedures.
- Mix leaning solution and put in a spray bottle. Spray solution onto the spot until it is thoroughly moist/wet. If needed gently agitate with a soft bristle brush.
- Allow the solution to emulsify, suspend and dissolve the spot.
- While the spot is saturated with the cleaning solution, blot with a lean, white absorbent towel or extract with a shop/wet vac.
- Thoroughly moisten the spot with clean water and repeat the last step. If you are getting a lot of residue, repeat until it is gone. Excessive residue may indicate spotting solution was mixed too strong.
- Fluff the carpet and let it air dry or set up a fan to aid in the drying.
*Blotting Procedures: Take a clean white cloth, fold to provide bulk, place the cloth ont he spot and press down with your hands or stand on it. The pressure applied will pull the suspended spot into the cloth. Repeat until the cloth no longer pulls moisture from the spot.
**Shop va/Wet vac extraction: Use a shop/wet vac to extract the moisture. Make sure the end of extraction hose is clean. Also be careful not to extract too aggressively and abrade the fibers. |
